TCS NYC Marathon
Running
When I was 15 years old, I joined Track & Field for Lowell High School in San Francisco, California. I mainly started running to stay in shape and to build stamina for long dance routines. Yes, I used to be a hip hop dancer. I never really took Track & Field seriously though. My friend and I would actually do everything we can to get out of practice. It was comical, really, because I still gave it my all every time I raced the 400m or 100m and somehow ended up running for our City Championships.
when I moved…
to New York, I stopped running for a year. It wasn’t until I started to work a 9-5 where I discovered that Company Runs were a fad. We would sign up for 4 milers, 5Ks, even 5 milers and it was fun to train for but most importantly, to celebrate with brunch afterwards. So now my new motivation to run was because I enjoyed brunch.
sooner or later…
a friend of mine suggested I run a half marathon with her. I told her that 13.1 miles literally seems impossible, considering the furthest distance I’ve ever ran was 5 miles. Running the NYC Half Marathon in 2015 was my start to long distance running. Eventually I was peer pressured to enter the lottery for the NYC Marathon and guess what? I got in.
I’ve been running long distances for 4 years now and love it. Ranging from New York Road Runner races in the 4 mile range, 10 mile range, 13.1, and 26.2.
This year I’m aiming to race shorter distances. My goal is to experiment training for 5Ks and 1 milers.
